Buckingham Security Services Ltd. was proud to host a special weekend of celebration mid-September, recognizing the latest recipients of the Alice Patricia Buckingham Scholarship: W.P. Sandin High School students, Brooklyn Klaassen and Madison Finlay.

The weekend kicked off at the RCMP Heritage Centre, where Brooklyn and Madison were formally presented with their award plaques. While there, they were pleased to meet Her Honour Bernadette McIntyre, the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, who stopped by with some words of encouragement. The visit also included the unveiling of Hero By My Side, a moving bronze tribute to the RCMP service dog program highlighting the critical role service dogs and their handlers play in keeping communities safe.

As part of the experience, the students received behind-the-scenes tours of both the RCMP Heritage Centre and Mosaic Stadium, learning the history and gaining firsthand insight into the work that goes into safety and security at a world-class facility.

“It’s a great opportunity for them to see the planning and responsibilities that are needed to keep people safe,” said Rod Buckingham, President and CEO of Buckingham. “Madison and Brooklyn are great examples of what the Alice Patricia Buckingham Scholarship stands for. We look forward to seeing them continue their leadership and wish them both the very best as they continue their studies.”

Saturday wrapped up with an exciting CFL matchup between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Montreal Alouettes, and on Sunday, the students toured the Saskatchewan Legislature before heading back to Shellbrook.

Meet the 2025 Recipients

Brooklyn Klaassen

Brooklyn plans to pursue post-secondary studies in humanities and social justice, with an eye toward law and education. Active in her community as a lifeguard, swim coach, and childcare worker, she focuses on education and prevention to ensure safety for all.

“This scholarship really means a lot to me,” said Brooklyn. “It’s such a great opportunity to learn and grow from the best in the field of safety. It spotlights the traits that make the world better — compassion, courage, and optimism.”

Inspired by her parents’ examples of kindness, Brooklyn hopes to lead by example and leave a lasting impact in Shellbrook.

Madison Finlay

Madison is pursuing a degree in psychology, driven by a deep interest in mental health and human behaviour. She credits her mother for instilling a strong sense of empathy and compassion, traits she brings into her everyday life.

“Receiving this award is such an honour. It encourages me to keep striving for excellence and to give back to my community with the same spirit of support and opportunity,” Madison shared.

Her goal is to build a career where she can support others with the same warmth and understanding that has guided her own journey.
